Aside from the "tutorial" segments (there are three of them), you can avoid almost every single battle by solving puzzles, being stealthy, etc. I didn't find them as annoying as other people (I thought of them as minigames to provide a break from the adventurey parts), but they are relatively unobtrusive if you play right. If you don't have a 4:3 monitor it's very hard to get it to run in the proper aspect ratio (you can run it in a window but that's really annoying).ĭefinitely don't play Dreamfall: Chapters first as it will spoil the crap out of Dreamfall: TLJ.Īs mentioned before, Dreamfall: TLJ has combat sequences. In fact I'd almost recommend playing Dreamfall: TLJ, then Dreamfall: Chapters, then play TLJ afterward.Īlso the origin TLJ is very tough to play on a modern computer. In this sense, the original TLJ is almost spoilers for Dreamfall. The reason for this is that the main character in Dreamfall is sort of in the dark about the backstory, and this way you get to be in the dark too. I actually recommend playing Dreamfall: TLJ *without* playing the original TLJ. You know little to nothing about the other characters, even after they shared parts of their past, you don't know much about the "Walker" apocalypse's source, you don't know much about anythings, but it's more about doing what has to be done, than knowing where it leads to and from where it started.ĭreamfall Chapters could be enjoyed like that too, I'm just recommending to take it in fully, with the previous titles.) (In the Walking Dead for example, the story works perfectly, despite that fact that you have little to no insight to the forces that guide your path. It's just going to make a lot more sense and mean a lot more, if you do. In the sense of like The Walking Dead, you can enjoy the game even without having any knowledge of the previous two games. I personally like to piece things together, and it'd be much much more difficult (more so impossible) without foreknowledge of TLJ. It's just not what I see as the core of the series. That being said, confusion isn't too bad. Without knowledge of the pre-established lore, I couldn't see stuff in Dreamfall or Dreamfall Chapters as anything other than confusing. But mystery comes from incomplete yet present understanding of what's going on. most notable of which could be the use of certain colours and dragon motifs, something that you'll never understand by just watching or even playing Dreamfall. Symbols are sprinkled all around the world. Not to mention stuff you can read or learn from characters, or pick up from the scenery. That game has a LOT of lore that you'll only really get if you pay active attention, instead of just taking a crash course with it playing in the background. I'm not sure just watching it would work. To understand absolutely everything else about the lore, the world, what makes it tick, what the biggest forces are and etc: Go Play The Longest Journey. Bepaalde beperkingen zijn mogelijk van toepassing op gamedownloads. To understand the characters, who they are, what their stories are: Go play/watch Dreamfall: The Longest Journey.
